SAINT ANDREW'S ABBEY, was formed in 1929 to honor our heritage. We work to honor the way of life established by St. Benedict and his rule.  To preserve our legacy we preserve the vision of Abbot Theodore Neve and the monks of the Abbey of St. Andrew in Belgium. SAINT ANDREW'S ABBEY of Valyermo is a Roman Catholic Benedictine Community of Monks.  The monks today continue the life of an earlier monastic community founded in China in 1929.  In 1952, when the political climate shifted and the communist came to power, the monks of St. Benedict's priory were expelled.  In 1955 this exiled group of Benedictines relocated to Valyermo, CA, and founded St. Andrew's Priory in the high desert.  After 37 years as a priory, St. Andrew's became an Abbey in 1992, and the monks elected Father Francis Benedict, O.S.B. as the first Abbot.
